  HAPPY HOLIDAYS Michelle and everyone!

- Hi friends, I will be on vacation until the end of the year.

After more than a year and half of delay (since I changed the layout design in March 2008), finally I have gotten the Videos -> Interviews section up. You may have seen some of them on this site, and some are "new". Would like to thank Bin, Dean, BAM and Frida for the help with the clips.

The videos are hosted on YouTube which is unfortunately blocked by the government in Mainland China. Chinese friends there will have to "climb the wall" (a new expression being used in China) in order to view the videos.

And don't forget to check out the stunning Shen Yun 2010 World Tour which is starting this weekend! New locations/shows will be added through the next few months. I voluntarily helped to build the Shen Yun in LA site and you can check out some videos there. It is truly a show not to be missed!

- A 50-minute Hi-Definition documentary, Among the great apes with Michelle Yeoh, will be premiered on the National Geographic Channel (Astro Channel 553) in Malaysia, December 9th at 9 pm.

Synopsis: Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh returns home to Malaysia to see her adopted orangutan for the first time at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre.
Description:   "Join renowned Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh on a very personal journey back home to Malaysia and into the world of the orang-utan. Orang-utans - whose name means 'persons of the forest' are among the planet's most endangered primates, and they are the only great ape found in Asia.

Once ranging from China to Java, orangutans now survive only on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. They could be extinct in less than 50 years if nothing is done to protect them and the forest they depend on. Due to poaching and illegal logging, orangutans have lost their natural habitat and forced into smaller areas, making it difficult for them to sustain long-term population and biodiversity.

Filmed in high definition, the program takes Michelle to Sabah on the island of Borneo where she finds out what's being done to protect orangutans and meets many people - from local Malaysians to international conservationists who, devote their lives to the battle to save orangutans from extinction."   -- from Men's Health Malaysia
Back in June, Michelle joined the film crew and workers at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre for three weeks in Sabah, eastern Malaysia. When she was invited to host the documentary, she said she would like to really go with the team to the forest instead of only showing her face. She said it is our duty to treasure and protect wild animals.

"Michelle was wonderful to work with. She is not only professional, but also a great sport, as she wanted to be involved in everything from day one," said Lina Teoh, a producer of the documentary. "She was like a big sponge, constantly soaking up every experience. Easy-going and down-to-earth, and even though we were stuck in the jungle with creepy crawlies everywhere, she never once complained. ... We didn't just want a pretty face. We also wanted someone who sincerely cared for the apes so that the story is being sincerely told."

According to the reports, Michelle adopted two baby orangutans in the rehabilitation centre, one is named "Sen" and another named "Michelle" (suggested by workers in the centre). Michelle promised to go back to visit them before they will be returned to the forest. The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was founded 1964 with the aim of returning orphaned, injured or displaced orangutans into the wild.

The documentary is directed by Harun Rahman with executive producer/co-director Lara Ariffin. It is produced by Kuala Lumpur-based film production company Novista Sdn Bhd in conjunction with the National Geographic Channel and FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia).

- A "Screen Daily" report mentioned today that Michelle is attached to play Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a biopic/drama being developed by British film companies BBC Films and Left Bank Pictures.

"It's not just a political story - it's a tragic love story. This is a woman educated at Oxford, married to an Englishman and who has two sons. She goes to her homeland to help for a few months and it turns into a 20-year house arrest," said U.K. producer Andy Harries in early 2008 when they were in talks with Michelle for the role. "It's a love triangle. She is torn between her love of her country, which looks to her as a symbol of hope, and her family. Her husband, who spent 10 years campaigning for her, died of cancer having been denied entry to see her and she still remains estranged from her children. We are talking about someone who is the Nelson Mandela of Asia."

The script is penned by cutting edge filmmaker and novelist Rebecca Frayn and the tentative title is The Divided Heart (originally "Freedom From Fear").

Aung San Suu Kyi (born in 1945) is the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner and she is considered as Burmese democracy icon.

- On September 24th at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), Michelle launched a $10 million scheme with former US President Bill Clinton to help the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) improve the safety of road infrastructure in developing countries. At the CGI annual meeting, FIA Foundation made the ten year commitment to fund iRAP provide 'vaccines for roads' - working with developing country partners to assess the safety performance of road networks, making technical recommendations to governments and providing cost/benefit analysis for fixing the road infrastructure design flaws that contribute to the global road death epidemic.

"Thousands of people are killed or injured every day in developing countries because essential safety measures are left out of road infrastructure projects. We must do more to protect all road users. It's often just a simple case of putting a crossing point in to help children get to school or ensuring that cyclists and pedestrians are separated from busy traffic," said Michelle when announcing the iRAP commitment.

Hong Kong actor Wong Hei told reporters that he will film with Michelle in Hengdian, Zhejiang Province in the middle of October.

The film leads will be Michelle and South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung and the two characters will be romantically involved. It is described by producer Terence Chang as a Gu Long style martial arts story. (Jane's notes: Gu Long was a well known Taiwanese martial arts novelist (1936-1985). Aug. 30th
- On August 28th and 29th, Michelle was in her hometown Ipoh and attended the Buddha Relics & Tibetan Antiques Cultural Exhibition Series there. It is said to be the world's largest exhibition featuring Buddhist masters' sariras and related relics and antiquities. Michelle accepted Buddhist Anointment (Guanding) that was performed by the 18th Dromtug Rinpoche Losang Choekye Pelden, who was born in Taiwan and is the highest-ranking Rinpoche of the Kadhampa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Michelle only stayed in Ipoh for a couple of days before going to Hong Kong on Sunday. She celebrated with her family her birthday in Chinese Calendar (7th of July, which is also known as "Chinese Valentine's Day").

(photos provided by Emily. more photos of the exhibition can be seen at Emily's blog)

[Jane's notes]   Sarira is the Buddhist treasure Michelle's character tries to protect in the film The Touch. In fact I had never fully understood the true meaning of sariras and anointment until I read the book "Zhuan Falun" (English version   Chinese version), the very book for which tens of thousands of Chinese people risk detention, jail, and even their lives to read (the book was banned by the communist government in 1999). Wen, my best friend in China who introduced the book to me, is still being detained in a forced labor camp in Beijing for her belief. And the lawyer her family got for her last year is among the dozens of Chinese lawyers whose licenses were suspended this year by the government for their daring to defend Falun Gong practitioners and victims of other human right abuses.

- Michelle's name is listed as a candidate for China's 2009 Top 10 Charity Stars.
