- HIGH-FLYING:
It's been London to Tokyo, back to London to New York, to L.A. and back to New York in the last two weeks for Michelle Yeoh, as she's been flying point to point for the "Memoirs of a Geisha" world premiere and other openings, and promo activities -- and completing her last days of work on director Danny Boyle's untitled big-screen sci-fi thriller for 20th Century Fox.

Yeoh, who plays lead geisha Mameha in Columbia's lavish big-screen adaptation of the Arthur Golden best-seller, opening tomorrow (12/9), says that "the launch will go on into January," but she'll be back to Malaysia in time for Chinese New Year Jan. 29 -- and she'll be ready. "I've been away from home for about six months. I miss my nephew and nieces, my parents and friends." But she wouldn't miss her "Geisha" experience for the world, she adds. "It's like when you're in a beautiful fast car, speeding down the highway, taking in as much as you can because you need to grasp this moment."   (The National Ledger, Dec 8)

According to various French reports, Michelle will join French director Olivier Assayas to make Boarding Gate, which is scheduled to start next February in the U.K., Luxembourg and Hong Kong. The Main cast also includes Asia Argento, Michael Madsen, and Tony Leung Ka Fai.
Written by the director, the film tells a story of an Italian woman, Sandra (Argento), who lives in London, who has a passionate affair with Miles Rennberg (Madsen), a former financial big gun. Sandra also has a second lover, an American Chinese, Lester Wang (Leung), who's a contract killer to kill Miles. Sandra escapes to Hong Kong to meet with Wang but he disappears. It is Wang's wife Sue (Yeoh) who is behind the scenes, pulling the strings...

"It would be a prequel, if it happens," said Lee. And he cautioned that he won't make the film until he's found the proper entry point. "I haven't found a new passion equivalent to the first one." Although a script for the prequel has been worked on for quite a while but Ang Lee didn't feel inspired by any of the versions. Visit CTHD Prequel page for history of the in-development project.

Spottiswoode was in Singapore last week and they are looking for boys between 5 and 16 years old who can speak both English and Chinese. The film's leads will be Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) and Australian actress Radha Mitchell (Finding Neverland).

The historical drama is based on the true story of George Hogg, a British journalist who rescued scores of children during Japan's 1937 invasion of China, leading them on an arduous trek to safety.

According to the report, Spottiswoode said Michelle and Chow Yun-Fat will both appear in the film. Filming is scheduled to begin in November in China and will last until next January.

- This photo that published at today's "Sin Chew" (Malaysia) is another one taken during Michelle's Singapore-Malaysia trip at the end of May. Several other photos were previously published at the news of June 2nd and 14th.

The 50th Asian Pacific Film Festival will be held in Kuala Lumpur this year, from September 28 to October 2. The organizer said they have already invited Michelle and hope she could attend. Reportedly Michelle agreed so as long as the filming schedule will allow her.

- Yishi, a Singaporean fan of Michelle's, sent us the scans from another magazine, "NuYou" (August 2005), where Michelle is on the cover story. Michelle did the interviews and photos for both "NuYou" and "Style" when she visited Singapore in late May (25th and 26th). "NuYou" is a Chinese language magazine. See Magazines for the photos and interview. Thanks Yishi again!

Michelle said it had been crazy with traveling and work. Hotels became her "home". She stayed at some places for 2 or 3 days, and some other places for 12, 13 days... Michelle said her hobby is her work. "I love reading. So when I spent two or three months reading and choosing scripts, I was working as well as enjoying my hobby. That's wonderful."

- A Xinhua article on Huo Yuanjia (note: "Fok Yun-gap" is a Cantonese spelling of the name). Some production photos can be seen at this Jet Li fan site (scroll down. No, no production photo with Michelle has been published). Two main supporting actors are Dong Yong, who plays Huo Yuanjia's close friend and Sun Li, who plays a blind girl and Jet Li's love interest.

- Filming of Huo Yuanjia has been wrapped up in Shanghai. Last Friday the production company invited media to visit the main shooting sets in Shanghai Shengqiang Film Studios. Jet Li, Ronny Yu (director), Yuen Wo-Ping, mainland actress Sun Li and actor Dong Yong accepted interviews. Apparently Michelle's part was filmed earlier and she was not present.

- "Sing Pao" (Hong Kong) reported that Michelle was in Hong Kong last week for a short break. They snapped a few photos (from a distance) when she was meeting with her friends and business partners. They said hard-working Michelle was even writing notes inside the car. Photo at left: Michelle was stepping into a car after a gethering in Causeway Bay. (thanks Frenda for the scans)

- I don't have confirmed information on the exact dates, but news from a reliable source said that Michelle did filming for Huo Yuanjia some time ago in Shanghai Shengqiang Film Studios. Apparently it was done secretly and no mainland Chinese media knew about it.

Michelle will guest star in the film. She plays a not big but important role. Her narration is the introduction of the story. Reportedly Michelle will not have any fight with Jet Li in the film. Pity. The film also stars Japanese actors Masato Harada and Shidou Nakamura.

- Yes! It is confirmed that Michelle will be in Jet Li's Huo Yuanjia (working title). The film is co-produced and financed by Columbia Tri-Star. It tells the story of Chinese martial arts master Huo Yuanjia, the master of the character portrayed by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury. It is not clear whether Michelle's part has already been filmed or Michelle will share the screen with Jet Li. Keep tuned.

- The July 5th issue of "Ming Pao Weekly" (Hong Kong) has a picture of Michelle, "wearing the coolest glasses on the planet." (thanks Sandra) Can anyone get us a scan?

- Taiwanese news agency "UDN" had more reports on Michelle's involvement with Jet Li's Huo Yuanjia. It says the story begins with an athlete, Miss Yang (note: "Yang" is the Mandarin spelling of Michelle's last name "Yeoh"), played by Michelle, who is making efforts to get Chinese traditional martial arts into formal Olympic competition. Then the story goes back to the legendary martial artist Huo Yuanjia (1868-1910), played by Jet Li.

There has been no report from mainland China about the possible involvement of Michelle on the project although the film has been shooting there (in Shanghai). Filming in Shanghai is expected to be wrapped up next week. The film is scheduled for an early 2006 release.

According to the Malaysian press, she attended a meeting on local project development and was surprised to see Malaysian Prime Minister Seri Abdullah who was also there. She greeted the Prime Minister and the two chatted for a while.
